(belated) weekender

tape’s latest album, luminarium, has been one of my favorites for the past two weeks and definitely my favorite of the artists work since his collaboration with tenniscoats on last year’s excellent tan-tan therapy.

doru, the blogger behind the cookshop—one of my absolute favorites—has announced that he’ll be winding down on the music. he will be missed. for those who never knew the blog, it’d be worth your while to read the backlogs.

as an austinite, i was quite excited to see that 2008’s austin city limits lineup has been announced, but pretty disappointed in the heavy content of mainstream, washed-up, and/or flavor-of-the-week artists.

a new article up online from adbusters is worth a quick read. hits a little close to home after squandering my tax refund on an ipod touch (which is totally worth it, btw)

I’ve had to sacrifice some time on here to make some for real life. Expect a slew of new and nice things by Sunday.

21 year old andrew craze of phoenix-based idol eyes has released his latest album, jiya dhareka for free online. it’s an at-times abrasive, often magnificent music collage that recalls early lucky dragons, and one of my favorite albums this week.

sarah lannan and simon evans are making 99 mix covers. the ones they have up now are awesome.

after watching johnny lee’s impressive wii remote hacks, i started watching some retro videogame videos.

just three days after tim robbins appeal to the national association of broadcasters to eschew sensationalism and return to sincerity in journalism, abc hosted an absolutely shameful “debate.” moveon has gathered over 200,000 signatures on their petition to the media to “stop hurting the national dialogue in this important election year,” and more would be even better.

did you know you can turn your ipod touch into an iphone? i didn’t.

dj pow wow’s stream on the obey your brain pod has some great free jazz, experimental and world music. highly recommended.

nadja

nadja nadja creates beautiful music that strikes a balance between seeming opposites. at the same time it’s monolithic and amorphous, cacophonously noisy and melodically ambient. on their new album on the crucial blast label, “desire in uneasiness,” aiden baker and leah buckareff add organic drums to their sound but otherwise return musically to their early work, inexplicably making their most enjoyable record since 2002’s “touched.”

listen to samples on the label’s website.

our sleepless forest’s debut has proven to be the album of the week for me, with the organic and electronic blended seamlessly and with a great deal of enthusiasm.

secretdancemoves has a nice muxtape with artists like popul vuh, erik enocksson, and gas.

behold the phonofone, a passive amplifier that boosts the sound from earbuds without the use of electricity.

raven sings the blues appropriately adores suishou no fune’s “prayer for chibi.”

deaf center, the dead texan, and akira kosemura play a few of the ambient drone pieces that make starmeat’s neighborhood radio station so pleasant.

another article worthy of your time from this month’s adbusters.

natural snow buildings

it didn’t take long for this french duo to become one of my favorite bands. their music is wildly diverse in style and structure within an album, and often within one song, yet it is always hypnotic and emotive. mehdi and solange have released two albums already this year, and at least two more are forthcoming on students of decay. below is a sample from 2006’s “the dance of the moon and the sun.”
